Pony.ai and GAC Commercial Vehicle have unveiled a new robotruck. The debut took place at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover.
The vehicle is a Level 4 autonomous heavy-duty truck. It runs on GAC’s T9 battery-electric platform. That detail comes from Pony.ai’s official announcement.
The show runs through September 20 at Hannover Messe. It is organized by Germany’s automotive industry association.

Gen-4 Robotruck Platform Built on GAC’s T9 Chassis
The new truck is part of Pony.ai’s fourth-generation Robotruck lineup. It extends the company’s partnership with GAC Group.
That partnership previously focused only on robotaxi development. Now it moves into freight and heavy trucking.
The truck uses the same domain controller as Pony.ai’s seventh-generation robotaxi platform. That shared architecture sped up development significantly, according to Tech Times.
From Partnership to Global Debut in Five Months
Pony.ai and GAC Commercial Vehicle signed their cooperation agreement on April 16. Within five months, the companies finished testing and validation.
That timeline is fast for a new trucking platform. It was possible because the autonomy stack was already proven.

The autonomous driving kit includes nine lidars. It also carries three millimeter-wave radars and 13 cameras.
That sensor suite gives 360-degree coverage with no blind spots. It uses the same approach as Pony.ai’s broader autonomous vehicle strategy.
Lower Costs and Redundant Safety Systems
The bill-of-materials cost for the driving kit dropped 70%. That is compared with the previous generation, per Pony.ai.
Transportation costs per ton-kilometer are expected to fall by 30%. The T9 also has a low drag coefficient of 0.4.
That efficiency is expected to cut energy use by 10%. The figure comes from Autonomous Vehicle International.
Six key systems use fully redundant architectures. These include steering, braking, and communications systems.
Power supply, computing, and sensing are also redundant. This design supports safe operation across many conditions.

Deployment Targets and What Happens Next
Volume production is scheduled to begin later this year. The trucks will target long-haul freight corridors first.
Dedicated logistics routes and port transport operations are also planned. Pony.ai also announced plans for European market entry.
The company aims to enter Middle Eastern markets too. That expansion is expected within the next two years.
He Xing leads Pony.ai’s robotruck business as vice president. He called the debut an important commercial milestone.
He said the companies will deepen their collaboration further. Volume production and deployment remain the near-term focus.
The Gen-4 lineup already includes other robotruck models. GAC Group’s collaboration with Pony.ai spans multiple vehicle types.
The announcement adds to broader momentum in China’s AI development push. Autonomous transport is increasingly part of that story.
It also follows growing global interest in robotics. Ventures like Maven Robotics’ recent funding round show similar momentum.
Investors are watching autonomous freight closely this year. Analysts see trucking as a near-term commercial proving ground.
Unlike robotaxis, freight routes are often fixed and predictable. That structure makes autonomy easier to validate at scale.
